Rolling with the Punches

Honeymoon-day 2- July 26, 2023

Day two of our road trip started wonderfully. We packed up our campsite in Lafayette, Indiana, and marveled at how well we work together, each of us constantly jumping to the next task that needs to be completed.

We left our campground in Indiana early and hit the road, headed for The House on the Rock. While I had experienced it, Chris wanted to see this cooky place! Our trip took us through some treacherous thunderstorms, making me a nervous wreck. However, Chris is wonderful at calming and distracting me.

On the road, we listened to one of our newlywed books on audio, The Seven Principles of Making Marriage Work. We enjoyed passersby honking to congratulate us when seeing our “Just Married” chalk paint on the back of our vehicle.

We stopped at the Wisconsin welcome center for a pitstop, as we took the on-ramp, several warning lights on the Subaru came on!

We immediately headed to the closest dealer to get it serviced, Janesville, Wisconsin. After a few hours of waiting in the dealer, writing our vows (we plan to exchange in various locations on our trip), blogging, and relaxing, we got the diagnostics. A pricy fix and another 2.5 hours wait. They gave us a loaner for the afternoon, we gave up on the House on the Rock and spent the afternoon at a local Rotary Botanical Garden, certainly worth the small entry fee. We also decided that a less-than-perfect day called for comfort food, so Chinese was on the menu! Amazing egg rolls and incredibly thoughtful service at Peking Chinese Restaurant. In total, our car trouble cost us about 6 hours of delay and a chunk of $$$.

Everyone at the dealership was amazing. We finally got back on the road and headed to camp at Great River Bluffs State Park in Minnesota. The stunning views and seclusion made for another lovely night.
