Alluring Arizona

“Jobs fill your pocket, but adventures fill your soul.” – Jamie Lyn Beatty

My tent camping rule for sleep is to avoid looking at my watch and just rise with the sun. This has proven to be a good strategy for me throughout this trip.

Once our Red Canyon campsite was packed, we headed to Zion National Park, Utah. Grabbing a scrumptious breakfast at Sevier Coffee Co. along the way.

We discovered the primary activity in Zion is riding a scenic shuttle. The aftermath of this fills the visitor’s center parking lot before 9 am. All we wanted to do was drive through the park, see the sandstone cliffs, get our National Park stamp in our passport book, and leave. It took us a few minutes just to find parking. We weren’t leaving without or stamp! If you do ever plan to ride that scenic shuttle, you better arrive before the sun!

On our way out, we did some climbing and exploring. Zion is a unique park with much to see. We could have easily spent a day here.

We ventured southeast toward Arizona for another excusion. Along the way, we stopped at Moque Cave Museum, Glen Canyon Dam Overlook, Horseshoe Bend- Glen Canyon, and last but not least, a tour of Upper Antelope Canyon.

Horseshoe bend is a unique view. I visited back in 2019 and was pleased to return. I had also experienced Antelope Canyon but had visited the lower canyon, we were lucky enough to snatch tickets for the upper canyon. This is one excursion you should book in advance for your desired timeslot. Their websites have recommendations for each canyon and the time of day best to view. Guided tours are the only way to view these canyons as they are protected by the Navajo Parks and Recreation and only authorized tour companies can take visitors to the canyon.

Having experienced Antelope Canyon for the second time, I’m convinced that the tour guides are trained in photography. They help assist with your portraits since they prohibit selfie sticks. They are knowledgeable and take their time informing you of various points of interest throughout the canyon. We even experience a bit of rain while inside.

From Page, AZ we traveled east, experiencing gorgeous desolate desert drives, Burger King for dinner, and after dark check-in. The Navajo Land Inn in Window Rock on the Arizona-New Mexico Border was everything we needed for the night.
