In Icy Strait Point, we boarded a second boat for morning whale watching. The excursion was absolutely stunning the entire time. We saw numerous whales pop up very close to our boat, sea lions frolicking along the shorelines, bald eagles, and so much more. The colors on the water were indescribable as the sun slowly crept up over the treelines.
After our morning on the water, our excursion closed with an all-you-could-eat seafood fest. This seafood boil included crab, shrimp, muscles, potatoes, and corn on the cob. We ate until we couldn’t and made some lovely friends over lunch.
We meandered along the shoreline after lunch, enjoying the scenery. This area’s version of a free shuttle back to the boat was an aerial gondola, similar to an aerial tramway. So, we were able to take a little ride as well before heading back to the boat.
As I’ve mentioned, our trip was incredible, with the best weather we could have hoped for during an Alaskan fall. However, we did have one port day to cancel in Ketchikan. We were a little disappointed because we had a Tongass National Forest hike excursion booked, and we hadn’t had the chance to hike in Alaska yet. Nevertheless, we enjoyed what was left of our boat days and made the best of it. We chose not to get off in Victoria due to the short port time late at night. We didn’t feel there were things we needed to see that late in the evening. But the last few photos of the post are of the sunset in Victoria.
