Exploring Peninsula State Park and Beyond
Day 3: Biking and Burgers
Fish Creek, Wisconsin and Door Peninsula.
We woke early and found it challenging to find anything open as early as we rise on Central time. Luckily, Chris had scouted out a lovely diner in Sturgeon Bay called Sunrise Food and Drink for breakfast and coffee.

After checking out of our condo, we wandered along the coast, planning to drive to a lighthouse in Peninsula State Park. As we drove, we spotted a bicycle rental just across from the park. Biking seemed like the perfect way to spice up our day’s adventure. Neither of us had ridden in years, but as they say, “It is just like riding a bike.” It was easier than expected.
We covered over 10 miles of trails, including the Eagle Bluff Lighthouse and the must-see Eagle Tower. The bike trails were easy to navigate and very smooth. After an exciting 2-hour ride, we knew exactly where to head for lunch.
Historic Wilson’s Restaurant and Ice Cream Parlour in Ephraim, Wisconsin, was the perfect spot. We each had a delicious burger and some generous malt shakes. The atmosphere was a combo of classic diner and beach-front outdoor dining.
As we continued our exploration, we stopped at Lautenbach’s Orchard Country Winery & Market to pick our own cherries. As it turns out, our trip aligned with peak cherry season. It was a fun and inexpensive experience.
